Film/New Music News: A Joke Before the Gallows Premieres December 2 in Toronto

On December 2, Adam Sherkin will premiere a film/live hybrid whihc we worked on together called A Joke Before the Gallows. A few years back, I wrote responses to each of Chopin’s four scherzi based on the concept of gallows humour, defined as “grim and ironic humour in a desperate or hopeless situation.”

Join internationally acclaimed concert pianist Adam Sherkin performing Chopin’s four masterpiece scherzi alongside monologues written by David James Brock, in this darkly funny, thought-provoking performance directed by Tom Diamond. The premiere is a mixed media event with film and live performance.
